My understanding is that the sensor in the X-Pro1 has a pseudo-random 6x6 pattern of red, green and blue pixels rather than the regular 2x2 Bayer matrix grid used in most cameras. Fuji claim that by using a sensor with a more random color pixel pattern they can get rid of the low pass filter without suffering from excessive moire patterning, which may lead to sharper images.
That's the theory. However tests of the D800 and D800E (no low pass filter) really don't show much practical difference in sharpness, at least not unless you have the best lenses at their best aperture and the camera on a tripod.
It would be interesting to take a look at the Fuji X-Pro1 though if I could get hold of one for review.
