Some Canon Lens are made only in Japan. Others in China, Taiwan or Malaysia. Some such as the EF-S 17-85 are made both in Japan and Taiwan. The propoganda from Canon USA is the same: that all factories are held to the same standard. I ask the members of the forum would the country of manufacture incorporated into the lens defect survey add additional value? As an example how does the Taiwan 17-85 stack up against the Japanese 17-85? Or what is the overall defect rate of the factories in Japan, China etc.

Without an objective measure of "Defect" I don't think you will get good data in a survey like this. Some photographers *cough*pixel-peepers*cough* are *much* more picky than others!

In my country, the "made in Japan" lenses tend to be priced higher than others.
I had a bad Japan's 18-55is, and 2 bad Tamron lenses both are China and Japan's.
The first had severe front focus, and the latter was quite soft even stopped down to f/4.
So I'm not sure Japan's would give you higher possibility of good lenses.

As others say nobody is perfect except God i guess.In things nothing is also perfect.All we have to do is take good care of our stuff.
