Hey Bob and all members,
I am considering to buy 5D(original). The main reason why I prefer to FF is because I can enjoy many lenses combination. Sometimes, I felt it was very awkward to use EF lens on the crop bodies. The canon 5d is now 1200 excellent used one or 1600 new one. Do you think it is good idea to get the 5d? Otherwise, am I waiting for new inexpensive FF (below 2000 or so)? Any comments, appreciated!

Canon is rumored to be introducing a new camera this week (may or may not be true). The new camera probably will not be FF. I believe that the 5D processor is digic II versus new digic 4. I expect there will be a substantial improvement in IQ. Rumored price is $1699. Wait and see…
On a Chinese [FN] board specs indicated the following:
? 18M APS-C CMOS
? Dual DiGiC 4, 14bit
? 8fps, 94 large fine jpegs or 15 RAWs
? 19 points cross type AF sensor. Center AF point uses cross plus X type AF sensor
? ISO 100-6400, extend to 12800
? 100% coverage, 1.0x optical viewfinder with smart information display. Digital gradiometer provided
? 3.0inch LCD, 920,000 dot
? New iFCL metering system, brightness and color
? Full HD video (with external mic input and HDMI output)
? 150,000 shutter life cycle
? internal e-ttl flash control
? Live view with Face-priority AF

Wait until September 1 to see if there is anything announced that fits your bill. If not, then get the 5D. At $1,200, it is a great value if you can get a good used one.
I picked up a refurbished one a few months ago and do like the photo quality and the focal lengths of my lens collection. The 5D and my 40D are very complementary bodies. They should serve me well for a few years no matter what new models are released.

Get the 5d if you want full frame and are on a budget.
Here's the thing. If you are strictly an Image quality person, this is (from what I hear) a top notch camera for the money. (I have a D30 and the images are fantastic) If you are a feature lover or just someone who would feel left behind with the "older version" then this may not be the one for you. Be honest with yourself and your budget. I fall somewhere inbetween (my D30 takes forever to start up and is quite slow and has a tiny low res screen coompared with my 5DII). in terms of the original 5D, 12 mp full frame is what Nikon felt was a flagship camera for years and if you are not pixel peeping the images are indistinguishible. I remember when the 5D came out, Canon's prosumer forerunner was the 20D and I was using a 10D. This monster seemed like an incredible camera. Well, it probably still is!
Bottom line would be, if money is tight (or you want another lens) do the 5D, if mony is no object, do the 5DII.
