the IQ of the 70-300IS with close-up lens?
« on: July 06, 2008, 09:52:13 PM »

Hi all,

I do not use macro lens many time. But sometime I need that one. However, whenever I used the macro lens, I wish macro lens would be zoom (such as Nikon 70-180). As I am Canon user, I consider canon 70-300IS as a macro zoom. So, if I use this lens with close-up lens, how much good quality for macro? If you are using it, please let me know the IQ of the 70-300IS with close-up lens comparing to macro lens. Thanks.

It's good. Especially if you stop down as you normally have to anyway if you're doing macro work to get any sort of depth of field.

I've been using a Nikon 6T two element closeup lens for about 10 years, first on a 75-300IS and now on a 70-300IS and the quality is excellent (assuming you get the focus right). Today I'd get the Canon 500D, but it wasn't available back then.

You might want to take a look at this article:

The subject of close-up lenses is covered near the end.
