Upgrade Canon i9900 printer?

Hi Bob,
I have been quite satisfied with the Canon i9900 wide printer, but am wondering if the newer Canon printers are 1. better, 2. less costly for inks. Also confusing is that one of the new machines runs pigment ink and the other, dye.

Your comments would be greatly appreciated.
