netbook and EOS Utility
« on: March 17, 2011, 10:26:27 AM »

Bob,

I read your netbook review with interest. Have you tried to control the camera with EOS Utility? Do you see any issues with that even with your screen resolution fix?

Thanks.

I haven't tried it yet, but when I get a chance I'll do so and report back. I never ever use the EOS utility but I know some people do so I'll check it out.

I tried controlling an EOS 5D from the netbook and it worked just fine. It ran OK in the native 1024x600 screen resolution mode.

I initially had a problem because the 5D and Windows 7 don't play well together. Some sort of driver issues. However I downloaded the WIA driver for the 5D for Windows XP because apparently it also works fine with Windows 7 (32-bit). After that all went well. As I understand it there are still some 5D issues with Windows 7 (64-bit), but that's a separate issue

Thanks for the info Bob. Perhaps a net book is in my future. There are some models that offer 1366 x 768 native resolution although I guess that makes for a small screen image on a 10.1 inch screen.
