I've loved my 20D for a long time but lately I've had trouble with it overexposing. I often shoot mulitiples of the same image and 30% are coming up overblown...so bad I can't recover the image in photoshop. I checked and the exact settings (aperture/shutter speed) are on both the good and bad images. I've tried resetting all the functions to factory and it still happens. What's going on? Is it time to upgrade? (I've been holding out for the new 5D upgrade).

It's very hard to diagnose a problem like this without actually having the camera and lens available to test.
It's possible that the aperture in the lens is sticking slightly, so it's not closing down to the proper aperture when you shoot. If that's the case it would only happen with one lens and it wouldn't happen if you shot with the lens wide open.
It's also possible that the shutter in the 20D may be sticking. Shutters have a finite life and if you have 100,000 actuations on it there could well be problems developing.
It's unlikely to be a metering error if it doesn't happen all the time, but anything is possible.
The only real solution would seem to be to send the camera/lens back to Canon for a checkup. If you are looking for an excuse to upgrade to a new camera though, this does give you one!

Thanks. I will do test shots on my lenses and see. I do remember a heart stopping drop recently with my 70-200mm lens that may have done it. Ouch! Is it wise to send it to a reputable Camera shop or directly to Canon? How can I get a hold of them?

I have been very satisfied with the service that Canon, NJ has provided. They have worked on my camera bodies and lenses. Also they will give you an estimate of the cost before they begin any work.

If you confirm you have a problem I'd probably stick with Canon. They know their cameras better than anyone else. Canon have two major repair centers for DSLR cameras and lenses. One is in Jamesburg NJ and the other is in Invine, CA. Since I live in NJ, all my experience has been with the Jamesburg service center and they've done a good job when I've used them.

You should probably send it to the one nearest you, but you can call Canon at 1-800-828-4040 and confirm with them exactly what you need to send and where to send it to.
