Title: EF vs. STM vs. L lenses
Post by: olyduck on October 14, 2013, 07:43:15 PM
At least for me, the introduction of the STM lenses seems confusing, although I understand the reason for them.  With most DSLRs now becoming more hybrid (still and video), is Canon planning that there will be both L and non-L versions of STM lenses?  I like innovation but the choices also seem overwhelming.

I'd be pretty surprised to see L or even EF STM lenses. STM isn't as good as USM for still photography and serious film makers don't use autofocus. I'd see STM lenses aimed at consumers and probably confined to APS-C and EF-S, at least in the near term.
