Title: Tripod Post by: jamisan on January 09, 2009, 05:40:31 PM Need a suggestion for a good tripod.
Would like to keep the price around $40 to $50 Title: Re: Tripod Post by: Bob Atkins on January 10, 2009, 11:34:29 AM Something like the Velbron DL-60 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00009UTVO/bobatkinsphotogr) might be closest to what you are looking for. It's decent, gets good reviews and is priced right at $50.
To get a good tripod and head I think you have to spend over $100. For example I like the Manfrotto 725B (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000FFSDCC/bobatkinsphotogr), which comes with a quick release plate and a ball head for around $120. For long/heavy lenses (over 300mm) you'd probably want something even better such as the Manfrotto 190XPROB (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000N7VPRW/bobatkinsphotogr) with a head like the Manfrotto 488RC2 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00009R6N0/bobatkinsphotogr). The best tripods and heads (Gitzo carbon fiber legs, with an Arca Swiss ball head) run to over $1000, so there's a huge range of options and prices! However any tripod is better than no tripod and the Velbron would be quite servicable if $50 is your limit and would certainly be capable of giving you much greater stability than hand holding, so I'd go for it! Is worth it very light weight has the 6x best on the market. You can also opt for the monopod 3551 which is also good if you buy the right assoiories like the rubber feet, spikes, with the bogan 234 moving head.
