Title: Modifying the Canon EF-S 18-55 *IS* lens for use on Canon 10D? Post by: E7RNN on April 16, 2009, 01:30:21 PM I've read the artical on modifying the Canon EF-S 18-55 lens for use on Canon 10D (http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/tutorials/efs-10d.html)
Does this work for the Canon EF-S 18-55 IS version also? Does anyone have any experience with this and are there things that are different compared to the non-IS version. Any help is much appriciated! Title: Re: Modifying the Canon EF-S 18-55 *IS* lens for use on Canon 10D? Post by: yayas on April 17, 2009, 01:34:14 PM I saw in the local market it's being cut to fit 10D.
Don't know the details about the process, but that cut-out works. I'm convinced Bob have the exact answer on this. Title: Re: Modifying the Canon EF-S 18-55 *IS* lens for use on Canon 10D? Post by: Bob Atkins on April 17, 2009, 04:26:05 PM Nope, I have no answer!
There's no reason why the IS should make much of a difference. If you can remove the rear part of the mount that interferes with the 10D body, I'm guessing it should work fine. Since I no longer have a 10D, I'm not modifying lenses anymore! Title: Re: Modifying the Canon EF-S 18-55 *IS* lens for use on Canon 10D? Post by: yayas on April 18, 2009, 11:36:49 AM oops... :)
Yes I saw someone cut the rear part, I would think it's similar with non-IS version. If their mounts are similar, it should need the same work to fit in 10D. I read Bob's article about converting the ef-s lens to fit my 10D, so I found one and tried it and it worked. I recently found the IS version of this lens and did the modification to it as well. The main difference is there is a tiny ribbon or printed circuit attached to the plastic lens mount. I cut mine about 1/16" higher on the IS lens because the printed circuit is attached just below where I cut. I should have taken photos, but I didnt. It works perfectly on my D10
