Title: New User Gallery Experiment
Post by: Bob Atkins on June 12, 2008, 12:18:17 AM
I've installed an experimental gallery for user images. Those who have visited the LensPlay gallery will recognize it as a clone (but with a few subtle changes you may not notice, but which make it easier for me to administer).

Basically you can upload three of your own images, but you have to include at least a 50 word commentary on each image. It's all explained in the gallery (see the "about" link).

The restrictions are deliberate. You only get three images, so chose your best or most interesting work. You have to say something about them - and that shouldn't just be a list of equipment used and exposure settings. It should be how you feel about the image, or why you took it or what you want people to see in it. Something about the image, not about the equipment (which you can also list if you must!).

When you submit your images they don't immediately appear in the gallery because I'm not letting users write directly to the database. The system isn't secure enough to allow that and I don't want it hacked or messed with. When you make a submission, I get email telling me and I check it out and do the database entry myself.

I'm inviting anyone with three good images that they would like to display - and about which they have something to say - to upload them. I'm not linking this gallery from the website pages yet. I want to make sure it's not too confusing. However when I do link it I'm sure it will get some decent level of traffic.

There's a field you can fill in which will provide a link to your own website and a field for your email address. Neither is required and the email address will not be available to the public. Only I will have access to it and I'll only use it if I need to contact you about the images. A copyright symbol and your name will appear next to the images - so only submit your OWN work here. You retain all rights, anytime you want the images removed, let me know and I'll delete them.
