Title: 270EX Post by: KeithB on June 19, 2009, 09:56:24 AM Thanks for the article on the 270 EX, and I hate to harp on this, but you should make it clear that there is NO IR assist light, that this strobe will lead to, well strobing, since it will have to disco-flash in order to focus in dim light.
That is a deal breaker for me... Title: Re: 270EX Post by: whizkid on July 26, 2009, 04:32:25 AM Keith
I have the 270ex as well as 430ex and 580ex II strobes and I must say the 270ex is a pleasure as it can slip in a shirt or pants pocket. My principle reason for buying the flash was for helping a 5DMk2 that lacks a built-in flash and I wanted something small for outdoor fill . It really doesn't activate the disco stobing that much as Canon cameras have pretty sensitive auto focus. Leaving a good room light on is usually all you need do. I now use it for fill with my 40d as well. I had been using it's built-in for outdoor fill but the 270ex makes it easy. My complaint with Canon (and other brands ) is the lack of a standard for determining guide numbers. I don't know why a guide number standard can't be developed in spite of the sensor size and sensitivity differences. Maybe ISO 200 using a standardized angle of diagonal coverage. |
