Title: Finding a Nikon Coolscan Scanner Post by: Bruce on July 07, 2009, 07:17:04 AM I read Ken's thread about doing scan without a scanner, which is very interesting. However I think I would like to get a Coolscan V which isn't the latest, but seems to be at a good price value/ range.
What I am really aiming for is to do this as a business eventually, combining it with selling images on a website. Right now no one at all has ever seen my images or knows I can do scanning as well as photo retouching and editing. I would like to change that, and have been offering my services as a retoucher for free, with little sucess. Right now though I really need to get a scanner, and finding a Coolscan V is really a chore.I've looked at craig's list, the FM forums,Canon digital forums,Adorama, KEH and even on Ebay, who I would really rather not,but.... A private user would probably be best, as I hope they would take the best care of it . I also have done rather little scanning,my only ones being on a HP S20 scanner, which was never the best by any means. Any advice on where to get a scanner,as well as starting a business would be greatly appreciated. BTW I'm doing this because I got laid off and would really like to persue something I really enjoy as opposed to working in Manufacturing, which I am sad to say seems headed in a rather downhill cause at this point.3 of the last jobs I had in the last 30 years going overseas. Whether it's actually available or not I don't know but if you want one it's worth checking out.
Note that the Nikon Super CoolScan 5000 ED (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0001DYTOY/bobatkinsphotogr) seems to be available from quite a few sources. Title: Re: Finding a Nikon Coolscan Scanner Post by: Bruce on July 07, 2009, 05:16:52 PM Thats another false alarm.people and business's seem to mix those two scanners up. The V went for $599 originally and the 5000 goes for almost $1100.Thats quite a difference considering they basically do about the same thing.Thats exactly what i told Nikon but as usual they weren't listening.
I just thought maybe someone here might have one or know of another place to get one. Title: Re: Finding a Nikon Coolscan Scanner Post by: Bob Atkins on July 07, 2009, 06:22:50 PM eBay may be your best bet In fact there's one there now:
Nikon Coolscan V ED on eBay (http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=2&pub=5574673508&toolid=10001&campid=5335918830&customid=&icep_item=170354936278&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229466&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg) The going rate seems to be in the $600-$800 range. Supply and demand I guess. |
