Title: Canon 1DsMarkll
Post by: tony rizzo on December 15, 2009, 03:49:18 PM
 Bob:
Have been wanting to go full frame. I have basically two choices the Canon 1DS Markll or the 5D Markll, I have researched info on both but would really appreciate your opinion. I currently have the 7D which I am still learning to get the results I want, so far a nice camera body. Not really all that interested in video aspect of camera as I'am in picture quality etc. Both the 1DS Markll and 5D Markll are in my price range.
   Your advice would be appreciated.
    Thank You

     Merry Christmas.

I guess I'd go for the 5D MkII unless you need the higher level of environmental sealing of the 1Ds MkII. The 1Ds MkII might also have the edge in AF performance too.

The 5D MkII (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B001G5ZTLS/bobatkinsphotogr) is cheaper at around $2700. The 1Ds MkII (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00064O8Z8/bobatkinsphotogr) seems to be selling for around $5000, though Adorama have 1Ds MkII refurbs for $4000 (http://www.adorama.com/Refby.tpl?refby=rflAID012417&sku=ICA1DSM2R)

Image quality seems pretty much equal with maybe a slight advantage to the 5D MkII, and the 5D MkII has HD video, even if you don't really need it right now (one day you might).

So overall I can't really see the 1Ds MkII being worth the extra cost. I'd get the 5D MkII and spend the rest on a nice lens or two!
