Title: Cannon EOS D30/Cannon EOS 30D difference
Post by: 126andy on March 06, 2010, 09:07:19 PM
I'm new to all of the camera stuff but I have seen the Cannon D30 and the Cannon 30D What is the main difference between the two cameras? Thanks for any info

Also I have a Tamron AF70-300mm 1:4-5.^Tele macro 1:2 lens that I bought the camera with and a
Cannon 28-135mmAF lens
What would each of these lenses best best to use for? Just trying to get a little start with the camera.

The D30 is a very early DSLR, in fact it was the first "affordable" DSLR from Canon.

The sequence is D30 -> D60 ->10D -> 20D -> 30D (then 40D -> 50D), so the D30 is 4 generations more recent than the 30D. It has more pixels, lower noise, higher image quality, better autofocus, more functions etc. I would not buy a used D30, but I would buy a used 30D.

The one that I bought was the 30D along with the lenses that I listed. I had a Minolta Dimage7 5.2pixels.Getting a little old so when this came up I bought it.

Bob ,
You need to do a wee little edit
"so the D30 is 4 generations more recent than the D30".

You know that kind of slip may have been a factor that led to the question about the D30 vs 30D. More times then I can count I have seen D30 used when the party clearly meant 30D. Sometimes a slip and sometimes the party didn't know better. It gets worse when you factor in Nikonians. Some often put a "D" before the number when mentioning a Canon model. Probably because Nikon uses  a "D" prefix for all DSLR models and some of those Nikonians get pre-"D" programmed. :-)

Edit done!  I don't know what Canon were thinking of when the started out with a D30 and later made a 30D. but it  certainly has resulted in a loy of typos!
