Title: checkerboard chart
Post by: avi on March 14, 2010, 04:35:27 AM
Hi,
I would like to use a checkerboard chart and measure MTF on it, in different distances. Can anyone suggest how i can calculate the correct square size per distance? I suppose size is a function of the camera resolution, pixel size, chart distance...but i don't know what the optimal square size should be.

Thanks, Avi,

I'm not really sure how you are going to measure MTF from a checkerboard chart and so I really don't know how you might decide on the size of the pattern.

I do have some information on resolution testing here - http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/technical/lens_sharpness.html - and it has some comments on chart size and pattern spacing that might be of use to you.

This article - http://www.bobatkins.com/photography/technical/mtf/mtf1.html - discusses MTF as a measurement of image quality.
