Title: Eye control focus on digital SLRs? Post by: pjmanning on May 27, 2008, 03:00:34 PM I am a long time Canon user and loved the eye control focus on my Elan IIE. I keep waiting and hoping for a new DSLR with this feature, but no luck yet, and no info on why not. Wonder if you have any insight on this.

Post by: Bob Atkins on May 27, 2008, 03:59:57 PM Well, it was never a professional feature (never appeared on a 1 series body) and it had a mixed reception on the consumer bodies (some loved it, some hated it). I don't think it was reliable enough to be classified as a "professional" feature.
If there's any technical reason it might be related to the smaller viewfinder of the APS-C bodies. It could also be that Canon think that the additional cost of ECF wouldn't be reflected in increased sales, so it may not make economic sense to use it. Since nobody else has it, they're not at a marketing disadvantage by not offering it. I don't miss it, but I know that there are ECF fans who do! Title: Re: Eye control focus on digital SLRs? Post by: tarnis on May 27, 2008, 04:54:38 PM I was glad I got the $50 off on the Elan IIe because they were out of Elan II's...seemed like a neat concept but pointless with 3 AF points. The new Nikons D300 and D3';s with 51 AF points on the otherhand would be a perfect fit for such a thing.
