Title: plan to review Sigma SD14? Post by: emanresu on July 14, 2010, 02:33:33 PM Hi Bob, do you have any plan to review the sigma SD14 DSLR? They use the 3-color foveon sensor in that camera, so each pixel truly captures all 3 prime colors. It will be interesting to see how good it is.

The Foveon sensor is interesting but the problem with the Sigma DSLRs is that they tie you into Sigma lenses. Not that Sigma lenses are bad, but it does limit your choices somewhat. If you buy Canon (or Nikon for that matter) you get the OEM lenses, plus Sigma, Tamron, Tokina and maybe a few other choices.
From what I've read, in practice the Foveon sensors don't really offer a significant advantage over more traditional Bayer matrix RGB sensors. Title: Re: plan to review Sigma SD14? It is an intriguing idea, but they just can't compete with the money being thrown at bayer-matrixed CMOS and CCD, they will always be a generation or so behind. They also have problems with light falloff at shallow angles since the light has to go deep into the well to resolve the rgb components.
