Title: Lens Mount
Post by: kd9518 on August 11, 2010, 12:48:31 PM
Is there ever a situation where a lens that fits perfectly on a Canon 5d won't fit on a Canon 40d? I can't remember the lens.. But I was going to borrow my friend’s canon l-series lens...and I went to put it on my 40d and it wouldn't fit at all but fit on his canon 5d perfectly. I thought the 40d could accommodate all canon lenses?? Thoughts???

No, not unless the lens or one of the mounts is damaged (or out of spec) in some way. Both should have identical EF series lens mounts and anything that mounts on a 5D should mount on a 40D.

The reverse isn't true since the 40D will accept EF-S mount lenses but the 5D won't.

However all "L" lenses have the standard EF series mount and so will mount on any "in spec" EOS DSLR

Well, not all true.

I have some of my EFS lenses fit on all EOS bodies.

Bob, did you know you can get real wide angle when using it on the Canon 5D Marks II and 1Ds Mark III?
They are great for Live-View and doing videos.

These lenses were made and modified by my uncle.
