Title: Lens Mount Adapter Post by: skwerl52 on October 15, 2010, 07:20:51 PM Is there a lens mount adapter for a Tamron lens that I used on my 30D camera, so this lens will work on a 5D Mark II camera?
Title: Re: Lens Mount Adapter Post by: jodaco on October 15, 2010, 09:04:10 PM I don't think there is any Tamron lens that works on the 30D that would require an adapter on the 5D2
Title: Re: Lens Mount Adapter Post by: Bob Atkins on October 16, 2010, 01:55:11 PM Yup. If it works on a 30D it should work on a 5D MkII, or at least mount OK on a 5D MkII. - But see the reply below about coverage
If it's a modern autofocus lens designed for full frame use and it does work on the 30D but not the 5D MkII you'd need to contact Tamron support and ask them if there is any known compatibility issue. Title: Re: Lens Mount Adapter Post by: whizkid on October 19, 2010, 06:52:10 PM Tamron (like Canon) has two lines of lenses. Those that give complete sensor coverage to a full frame model like the 5DMk2 and will work on all of Canon's models regardless of sensor size. Those are labeled by Tamron as "Di" lenses. The other Tamron lens line is like Canon's EFs line of lenses and gives coverage to no more than the smaller APSc sensors as found on models such as the 30D. One exception model being the older 10D but that need not be discussed here. Those Tamron lenses are designated "Di II". My understanding is Tamron's Di II lenses will mount on fuller frame models but will vignette heavily and are thus not recommended. If your Tamron predates both Di or Di II designations then it can also be used on both cameras as it gives the same full frame coverage provided by "Di" designated lenses.
No adapter made will make a lens designed to cover just the area of an ASPc sensor cover the larger area of a FF sensor so if that is what you seek you are out of luck. |
