Title: Camera travel backpack Post by: skwerl52 on October 20, 2010, 08:27:47 PM Any suggestions for a camera backpack to use for travel. Looking to pay about $100.00 that will hold a canon 7D with a 70 to 200MM lens attached. Will also need to carry a flash, extra batteries, cards & charger and a few other accessories.
Title: Re: Camera travel backpack Post by: Johnf on October 21, 2010, 04:41:20 AM I have the Canon 200EG. It is about $40. I bought it because I wanted a quick backpack that was inexpensive for my 30D. I did not realize that it was going to last 4 or 5 years. Empty, the bag weighs ounces, it is very lightweight. Now I carry a 5DII attached to a 70-200mm, along with it I pack a 100-400mm, 24-70mm and a 17-40mm. Full, it is heavy ! It fits under the seat in front of you when you fly. I use it as my carry-on and put my cell phone, wallet, and iPod. It has pockets galore for a chargers, extra batteries, filters, memory cards. It even has a draw string where you can stuff a light jacket. For flash photography I have to carry a Speedlite. So if I want all my lenses I can fit it in one of the pockets or I just fold it down and put it where the wide angle usually lives. Overall I have been very happy with it; it has been durable and protective even at the beach and in the rain. I have only 1 complaint, one of the zipper handles broke off so now I only have one zipper (its like a suit case, you can zip it from both ends of the zipper). This happened after about 3 years. You can spend whatever you want on bags. Some would argue that if you are carrying $5000+ worth of photo gear you should not trust it with a $40 bag but I have been pleased and have never noticed any damage to my stuff.
Good luck ! Title: Re: Camera travel backpack Post by: Bob Atkins on October 21, 2010, 09:41:25 AM I've always been very pleased with LowePro gear. I have two of their backpacks and one of their belt packs. They've all stood up well in use and my "classic" Trekker backpack is now maybe 20 years old and is still in good shape with all zippers, straps, belts still iintact.
For au unconventional design (single strap) I'd look at the Lowepro SlingShot 202 AW (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B0036AWR8E/bobatkinsphotogr) For a more conventional design (with two back straps) I'd look at the Lowepro Fastpack 250 (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B000YIYQ30/bobatkinsphotogr) I'd also agree that the Canon Photo Backpack 200EG (http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00009R6TA/bobatkinsphotogr) is hard to beat at the price if you just want sometning simple. |
