I am trying to set my new camera the way it was set on my old 50D. Instead of pressing the shutter button halfway to focus, I prefer to use the AF-ON button. Then the shutter button only trips the camera. I have found that when shooting birds that are stationary, that I can get more shots by not refocusing every time the camera trips. Anyway, the Canon manual is driving me nuts and I can't seem to get it set right. Your help would be greatly appreciated. This is done in the C.Fn.IV menu (option 1) Change the setting for shutter button 1/2 press from metering and AF start to metering start only. Once you've done that, AF-ON will give you AF and 1/2 pressing the shutter buttom will start metering but it won't change the focus.
