With the newly released EOS Rebel T1i and its capability of filming in HD..Anyone have any speculation if Canon might release a new firmware update that will allow HD Video filming as well?

It would seem possible but not probable. The reason, No microphone,therefore, no sound.

I think the chances of a video update for the 50D are zero.
However I suspect the EOS 60D will have video capability in excess of that of the T1i, and possibly at least equal to that of the 5D MkII. When we will see the 60D is anyone's guess. Probably sometime next year.
