I have taken following image using Canon 400D (XTi) and 50mm f1.8. Please comment to make it better. No PP, down sized to fit here. Both the images where taken using Auto white balance, Multisegment metering, Portrait picture style, ISO 200, Full manual mode, Shutter Speed:1/1000, Apearture:f4.0, No flash
The questions are: Are these images up to the mark? Is it the right performance for 50mm 1.8?

Piyush,
The part I like most about the 50mm is that it can be opened up to 1.8! So, to fully utilize the capability of this particular lens, I would suggest opening it up completely. This would mean that you are letting in a lot of light, since this picture is taken in broad daylight. Maybe you can look into a neutral density filter that could cut the exposure by a couple stops (or even play with exposure using some software...). I think by choosing a contrasting back ground (that will be blurred at 1.8 ) and playing with the exposure, will give you a more "desired" image. Good luck!
