Canon 10D compatible lenses / FD to EOS advice
« on: August 25, 2010, 05:10:53 AM »

Hi guys

Given a canon eos 10D for my birthday but it didn't come with any lenses , i do know they need EF (was told EF-S) wouldn't work

I have seen loads on ebay and would like to get a good one but not sure what i should be looking for , my friend has lent me for now a EF 75-300MM 1:4-5.6 III which i have taken some nice photo's with so i know that one is fine , can anyone suggest any more

I do have a FD 135MM but it won't fit and by looking at bobs proper pages i don't think if i get a

Canon FD Lens to EOS EF Body Mount Adapter

or

Macro Lens Mount Converter FD-EOS

Will work , so what i am after really is , will the FD lens be ok if get a convertor and what EF lenses will be ok , also Will EF-S lenses be ok or just some of them

Your help will be of great assistance

Best regards mike

The EOS 10D will not accept EF-S lenses, so cross them off you list. The EOS 20D was the first camera of that series that accepted EF-S lenses.

I'd avoid the converter. The results are unlikely to be good and a converted lens isn't very easy to use.

While Canon's EF-S lenses for APS-C cameras (like the 10D) won't fit, the SIgma, Tamron and Tokina lenses designed for APS-C cameras will fit and work OK, so if you want a wideangle zoom, you'd be better off taking the "3rd party lens" route.

Your lowest cost option would be something like the Sigma 18-50 (around $200)
