Printer Paper
« on: September 13, 2010, 06:29:26 AM »

I am confused as to which are the best types of printer paper to buy.  If I go to the local computer store I can see a selection of paper sold by the likes of Kodak, Canon, HP etc.  However if I look at the adverts in the magazines there is a seemingly endless selection.  I would appreciate comments on what paper people have found to give the best results.  At this stage i am not thinking of finishes that emulate canvas.  I would also appreciate comments from people in the UK, to ensure that waht is recommended is available here.
Thanks

If you are npt going to profile it,and you see no difference in the papers you buy, I would by the brand for your printer.  (I use HP paper in my 990cm).  I assume that the manufacturer has profiled things and knows the best settings for his own paper.

I agree with Keith. I find that the best paper for my Canon printer is the paper made by Canon. I also use Canon inks. It makes sense that you are going to get the best results if everything is made by the same manufacturer, unless you want to do a lot of work in color calibration and profiling. If you wanted to use an exotic high end art paper, or some 3rd party ink system, then you'd have to make sure you had the right profile set up for printing.

Many thanks for the advice.  I have a Canon printer and have stuck with Canon paper and inks.  I will continue to do so.  By-the-by I have just made my first foray into L series lenses with the 70-200 f4 and am really pleased with it.  I can see why people pay the extra for these lenses.
