Yes, the
Canon EF-S 60/2.8 macro USM could substitute for the
Canon EF 50/1.8 II and provide additional macro capability.
Actually I should go back and add to the article the fact that I took along a 2 element closeup lens for use with the
Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 SP Di VC . That's my "macro" lens, though on this trip I didn't actually do any macro work (which is why I forgot to include it!).
I use a 62mm Nikon 5T on the Tamron 70-300, which has a 62mm filter size. However for some reason Nikon seems to have stopped making their sereis of 2 element closup filters so the "T" series of clloseup lenses is no longer available. The Canon 500D series filters would be equivalent.
