50D Resolution v/s Lens resolution
« on: January 14, 2009, 09:56:12 AM »

Bob,

I have been following websites talking about sensors and lenses outresolving each other. How does one arrive at such a conclusion? May be you could provide a detailed method of arriving at a conclusion. I own a 50D. I would like to know a list of canon and 3rd party lenses (portrait, landscape & general purpose) that would match the 15 MP sensor. Your advise will be of great help !

Forget what you read. Basically the sharper the lens, the sharper the image will be. That pretty much means the more expensive the lens, the sharper the image will be.

The talk of cameras or  lenses "outresolving" each other is mostly junk and comes from people repeating what they've read or from people without a good understanding of optics.

You might want to read this article which goes into a little more detail on the subject:

So just buy the best lens you can affford and don't worry about what "outresolves" what, because it doesn't!
