I have had great success copying all the old family photographs using my 40D and a rigid copy stand to mount the camera. The ability to control the camera from the computer makes a great difference. Does anyone have experience of copying 35mm and 6x6 slides without having to buy an expensive scanner? I am thinking of projecting onto a sheet of ground glass (back projection) and photographing from the front? The attraction of such a setup is that once you have figured out the camera settings nothing need change.

Having copied 35mm 6*6 and 6*4.5 films to digital for a long time now using dedicated scanners and EPSON flat beds. The one for price and quality are the latest flatbeds. I use the EPSON 4870, it takes all sizes of film. Purists may say that you cannot beat dedicated scans but you are limited to 35mm if you are not a millionaire.
