1Ds mkII

I was recently given a 1Ds mkII, and I am trying to determine how much use it really has seen. It belonged to the brother of good friend who recently passed due to cancer. The family does not want anything to do with his stuff, but I am going to give them something based on its value. I have nothing except the body - no documents or software. The body and the lens that was with it are very clean, the only issue was a bit of crud from the inside of the camera bag that was starting to shed. The time/date battery held the info, but the main battery will no longer hold a charge for more than a couple of days. I bought a charger and the camera seems to function just fine and takes better pics than my XTi, and all my lenses function on it, so I am just looking for the software and how to find the # of actuations on it.
Any suggestions??

Thanks a ton. It appears that the camera has hardly been used. I ended up with a count under 1000. I looked it over and the paint is not even worn on the strap loops. I think I have a new camera!! I am going to make a good offer to the family. Now, where can I find the software for it?? Any other nifty little things I should have for one of these bodies?? I can wait to put my 70-200L on it and give it a try, as soon as I get a little time.

You can find software on the Canon website. You really don't need much, but Canon's DPP RAW converter will be useful. Not sure if the manual is onlline but I suspect it probably is.
The best way to get images from the camera to a PC is by using a card reader.
On problem with the software is that all the updates are there and they are all free, but you probably need some original program before the updates will install. I'm not sure where you can get the original software from, though I suspect you can probably order it from Canon at a nominal cost. Otherwise if you know someone locally with a Canon EOS camera, you can just borrow their software CD and then install any updates from the Canon website.

The software he got for the Rebel should be good enough to get everything to work. I would go ahead and download all the updates from Canon and install them.

Yep, I missed that. If you have the XTi software, just install all the updates listed on the EOS 1Ds MkII page. If you can't find that just install all the updates forund for any recent camera (5D MkII, 7D, 1D MkIV) and you should end up with the latest version of everything.
Look for 1Ds MkII firmware updates too. If the camera hasn't been used much it may not have the latest firmware installed.
