« on: October 17, 2008, 10:31:32 PM »

A UV or a Skylight 1A filter, which is better?... in your view.
And, "close up filters", gimmick or good...your view. Thanx

See these two articles about filters

When you say "better" it depends what you want the filter to do. If it's just for "protection" of the lens then all you need is a quality (multicoated) UV filter. A Skylight 1A is slighly warming. You can use one, but with a digital camera you really don't need one.

Closeup filters care good if you use the right (2-element such as the Canon 250D and 500D) filter on the right (short telephoto) lens. The really cheap single element filters aren't so good and they don't work well on wideangle lenses.
