Disney Parade at Night
« on: December 07, 2008, 04:37:23 PM »

I have an XSI with a Tamron 18-250 F3.5 - 6.3  Lens using P mode; how would you shoot the Disney Parade at night----without flash, with flash using what setting on the camera (would P mode do it) and at what speed/ f Stop.

thank you

Take a look at my Halloween parade shots (and gallery link) here:

Most of the time I used full aperture, a shutter speed of 1/60s, ISO 1600 and a hotshoe mounted Canon 550EX speedlite. I doubt that the XSi's built in flash would have enough range unless you're pretty close to the action. With a Guide Number around 45 (ft) at ISO 100, your flash range will be around 30ft at ISO 1600 and f5.6. I'd shoot RAW since that gives most room for post exposure correction.

Disney parades are pretty well lit.  You should be able to get by with ISO1600 and no flash, though you will not be able to stop the action all that well.  A monopod will help to steady the camera since you do not have IS.

The important thing is to get to the route early (at least 1 hour - more like 2!) so that you can get a good spot!

Which Park is this?  If at Disneyland in CA, a good spot is right next to the Alice in Wonderland ride.  (Right in front of the bathrooms (handy if you are there a few hours!) Just outside the handicapped area.)

Would you mind if I emailed you a few examples?  I don't think I can post them here...
