Does anyone know when the Canon EF 180mm f/3.5 L USM Macro lens was issued in the current design and whether and when there can be expected a Mark II version of this? Thanks and kind regards

Why would you expect a MkII design? I've never heard any complaints about the original EF 180/3.5L macro USM and if it's not broken Canon probably are in no hurry to fix it! I've heard no rumors of any updates. It was introduced in April of 1996 and has a repuation as an excellent, very sharp telephoto macro, which is also a very good conventional telephoto lens since it can be combined with the 1.4x and 2x multipliers to make 288mm and 360mm telephotos.

Thanks Bob! No, no complaints, just reading very positive comments about this lens, but as I intend to buy one, I just wanted to know whether there are already news about a successor, then I would have waited. Cheers from Switzerland and congratulations for the pages.

This is an excellent lens. Albeit heavy, its bokeh is excellent and the IQ enhances your macro work. I always shoot with this lens mounted on a tripod and I focus manually.
Good Luck.

Hi again, I could not resist much longer and have the lens now for 3 weeks and yes, I am very happy with it! My current passion is a collection of wild flowers in the surroundings and the working distance with 180mm and my 5D MkII is ideal, I should have bought it earlier.... regards and thanks again
