canon 70-200 2.8 IS or Tamron 18-270 VC ??

I'm trying to choose some lenses for my canon 10D.  I will probably purchase the Tamron 17-50 2.8.  To go along with that, I'm considering the Canon 70-200 2.8 IS or the Tamron 18-270 VC.  I can get a good deal on the Canon, but its still about $400 more than the tammy 18-270.  Is it worth it?  I will be shooting portraits, landscapes, travel and water skiing.  Any suggestions?

In a word, yes. The EF 70-200/2.8L IS USM is one of the best zoom lenses available from any lens manufacturer. If you can get one for only $400 more than the Tamron 18-270 VC then go for it.

Something doesn't add up. The Tamron 18-270 sells in the neighborhood of $600. The Canon 70-200 f/2.8  with image stabilization(IS) typically sellls in the $1700 range from reputable dealers. Something smells and you are possibly quoting some scam operation using baited pricing.

You can get the Canon EF 70-200/4L IS USM for around $1000 from Adorama (at least for the next three days while the current Canon rebate is still in effect).
