Windows Based photo management software question
« on: October 16, 2009, 08:47:04 AM »

Ok, folks, one more question for my digital talk.

I use a Mac so I am not familiar with Windows software.

I use iPhoto which simply sucks in your images and takes care of all the behind the scenes file management while you just use the image as you want.  It also keeps your original image intact, and only modifies copies which I consider a very good thing.  The current incarnation also features events (grouping images by time and date), places (geocoding) and faces (facial recognition) to help you organise without actually organizing - if you get what I mean.

Are there any similar programs for Windows?  I know about Bridge and LightRoom, but I was looking for other options.

Maybe I am on a completely different note here, but it sounds like you need picasa.  [link]http://picasa.google.com/[/link]

It keeps your photos organized by dates etc, but I am not sure about other advanced features such as facial recognition.  It is free, so feel free to give it a spin and see if it meets your need.
