Video Software for 7D or 5D MII
« on: December 15, 2009, 09:08:14 PM »

Bob,

Have you had experience with the video capabilities of the 5d MII and 7d?

If yes, can you describe lens used, ISO, etc.

Importantly what software did you use to produce/edit the video?

What software would you recommend for someone new to video?

Regards,

Marc

If you have a Mac than iMovie is probably all you need.  If that is too simple for you, you can upgrade to FinalCutExpress.

I'm using a PC.

The suggestions that I have heard about are:  Quicktime Pro and Sony Vegas Studio HD.

I've shot HD video with the 7D and 50D but I haven't tried to edit it.

For SD video I've used Windows Movie Maker. I don't know if it does HD and if so at what version that was added.

I've also used Corel Video Studio 12, though again for SD video. It does have HD capability and it's not expensive, but I can't really say how good it is for HD. Seems fine for SD. HD is just a lot more work for the CPU and disk system.

I've seen some positive reviews of Adobe Premiere Elements 8, though I've also seen a lot of user complaints that it's unstable. Again, not expensive.

The hard core video editing programs can easily run over $1000.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

I need to think about how to proceed and I will report my results.

At the present time I am focusing on learning and using the still image portion of the 7D.
