Is 5D almost same price as now in this fall?
« on: July 02, 2008, 03:22:33 PM »

Hi Bob,

I am very satisfied with 5D that I borrowed to take pictures. And I am also considering 24-105L. Definitely, it is wonderful chance to get 5D with kit 24-105L now. But I am short to purchase them now. So I anticipate to buy that one this fall.

My question is whether the price of  5D with kitlens would raise much after rebate or not. In other words, after releasing new 5DII (maybe at this Fall), is 5D almost same price as now?

Sorry for bothering you. thanks.

Don

I really can't say. It depends on a lot of things. If and when the 5D MkII is released and what the price of it is will all affect the price of the 5D in the fall. There's also a matter of supply. If Canon are going to bring out a 5D MkII, my guess is that 5D production will now have slowed or maybe even stopped.

Even if the 5D price (without rebate) does drop to $1900, you have to consider the savings you get by buying the kit now. You save about $350 on the lens. It's hard to say what the kit price will be in the fall (assuming there are kits available).

My gut feeling is that you probably won't save much by waiting, plus you'll have the use of the camera over the summer. Of course I could be wrong, though even if the price in the fall is lower, it might be worth buying now so you can use it for the next few months.

I'm very happy with mine. I just got back from a 2 week trip and I used the 5D and 24-105/4L most of the time.

Strangely, the 5D has gone up in price all across Canada.  So much for the Loonie appreciating against the Greenback.

If we use the 30D as a precedent, the 5D should be roughly the same price this fall as it is after rebate now.  However, old 30D bodies certainly were NOT going up in price in the months leading up to the 40D announcement.

BH Photo seems to have increase their price for the 5D by $100.  I find these increases suspicious in light of Nikon's latest announcements, Sony's impending FF camera, and a crippled economy.

Well the price increases over the past few weeks in the US are simply due to the fact that the Canopn rebate ended on July 19th. Not all stores immediately raised their prices by $300 (the amount of the "instant rebate"), though some may have. With others the price has been slowly creeping back to where it was before the rebate program.
