Combination of lens and extention tube for macro photography.
« on: January 19, 2010, 09:13:29 AM »

I want to get really close .
So , I'm considering to use extension rings (for my 5DMKII)
I will either use a prime 50/1,8 or the 17-40 L USM /4,0.
I know that the ideal solution would be the 100mm macro but this will have to wait for a few weeks.

Any ideas ?

What do you mean by "really" close?

With a Canon EF 25 II extension tube you can get magnification ranging from from 0.53x to 0.68x from the EF 50/1.8 II.

With more extension you can get more magnification, though you lose more light and image quality drops a little more. The Kenko DG Auto Extension Tube Set gives you various extensions from 12mm to 68mm by stacking the three different length tubes (12mm, 20mm and 36mm).

Suspect that results with the 50mm prime will be better than from the slower and wider zoom.

I guess "really close" is a stupid way to put it'
I want the max magnification with my available lenses until I put hand on the 100mm macro.
I bought the ring you suggested.
Thank you very much once again.
Will post results when I try it.
