Question - EOS 7D
« on: January 21, 2010, 03:05:42 PM »

I have a uick question about  the Canon EOS 7D. I read where it says it takes HD video at the aspect ratio of 16:9. Does it also take still images at this ratio? I would assume yes but just wished to verify.

Thanks for any help

I don't think so, but it's just a matter of cropping to that format.

Still file sizes are:

(1) Large: Approx. 17.90 Megapixels (5,184 x 3,456)
(2) Medium: Approx. 8.00 Megapixels (3,456 x 2,304)
(3) Small: Approx. 4.50 Megapixels (2,592 x 1,728)

All of those are the normal 3:2 aspect ratio for APS-C and 35mm

Since the sensor has a 3:2 ratio, the only way you can get 16:9 is to crop, so you may as well shoot with the whole sensor and then crop later. That way you have a little more flexibility in composition anyway. HD video crops in camera to get the 16:9 aspect ratio since that's the standard for HD and the format of most HD TVs

The EOS 7D is currently available from Amazon for $1690.83  (free shipping)

I have a 7D and it does not capture still images in the 16:9 aspect ratio.

However, my Panasonic LX-1 captures images in this ratio.  It is actully an impressive P/S camera.
