Bob Atkins' explanation on Depth of Field was easest for a non-mathamatician to comprehend! I now understand why my former Canon A 570 3X does not give good DOF when compared with my present EOS 50mm 1.8 II lens when using both to image the platform speaker(s) 7 meters from camera at 10:00 a.m. inside a church sanctuary (no flash allowed) usiing AV mode setting and 1/100 shutter speed at 400 ISO using both electric lighting supplemented with California daylight streaming in from large side witndows of the church.
But Bob Atkins' calculation table (at end of his web site) only allows me to calculate for my former Canon A570 3X; can anyone tell me what the equivalent DOF (in inches) would be for my new Canon 50mm 1.8 II lens would be (approximately). I use 1.8, 2.0 and if enough light use 2.2, all at about 1/100 second at ISO 400.
