Macro for travel kit
« on: May 19, 2011, 07:42:37 AM »

Bob:
Good article on the travel kit.  What about a good fast macro instead of the 50/1.8?  My 60mm EF-S macro is not much bigger and is what I usually take.

Yes, the Canon EF-S 60/2.8 macro USM could substitute for the Canon EF 50/1.8 II and provide additional macro capability.

Actually I should go back and add to the article the fact that I took along a 2 element closeup lens for use with the Tamron AF 70-300mm f/4.0-5.6 SP Di VC . That's my "macro" lens, though on this trip I didn't actually do any macro work (which is why I forgot to include it!).

I use a 62mm Nikon 5T on the Tamron 70-300, which has a 62mm filter size. However for some reason Nikon seems to have stopped making their sereis of 2 element closup filters so the "T" series of clloseup lenses is no longer available. The Canon 500D series filters would be equivalent.
