Seamless photography: Using mathematical models for image stitching

The approach used in this paper instead minimizes seam artifacts by smoothing the transition between the images. The mosaic image here is a weighted combination of the input images. This means the pixel values from the two overlapping images are combined using a weighted average for qualities such as exposure, local contrast, saturation, etc.

In 1938, the Museum of Modern Art mounted its first solo photography exhibition, a display of 100 pictures by Walker Evans 1903-75 bearing the flatly declarative title “American Photographs.”…….So it is a fine thing that MoMA is presenting a 75th anniversary reprise of the show with a display of more than 50 prints from the original body of work.

Build your own camera for $35! It’s not digital, but that’s the point. It’s an actual SLR with a detachable lens! The aperture is fixed (50mm f10) and the shutter speed is fixed (1/80s – or bulb) and it shouldn’t take more than an hour or so to put together. Focus is from 0.5m to infinity.

How long before someone put s a digital sensor in one I wonder…

Chicago Sun-Times Lays off all Photography Staff

The Chicago Sun-Times laid off its entire full-time photography staff Thursday, including a Pulitzer Prize winner, in a move that the newspapers management said resulted from a need to shift toward more online video.
