Lexar Compact Flash Card Rebates![]() Just a short note to let you know that Lexar have rebates running this month (January 2006) on their 1GB, 2GB and 4GB Professional series 80x WA Compact Flash cards. These are among the fastest Compact Flash cards out there at 80x speed. They also have write acceleration (WA) technology, which may be of interest to some Pentax, Sigma and Nikon DSLR owners, but not Canon owners since it's not supported by Canon cameras. WA can speed up operation slightly on cameras with compatible firmware, but even on cameras without WA the cards will run at full 80x speed, which indicates a sustained write speed of 12MB/s and up to 16.6 MB/s in bursts. Lexar Pro Series 80x WA Compact Flash cards also come bundled with a copy of Lexar's excellent Image Rescue data recovery software which would otherwise cost you $30 to download from the Lexar website. The rebate is $30 on a 1GB CF card, $40 on a 2GB CF card and $50 on a 4GB CF card. This makes the price of the 1GB card around $68, the 2GB around $155 and the 4GB around $350. Clearly the 1GB card (or multiple 1GB cards) represents the best value in terms of $ per GB and 1GB is big enough for most applications. Actually I prefer to use multiple 1GB cards over larger cards because if something goes wrong, at least you can only lose 1GB of data, rather than 4GB! You can download the rebate form Here The card must be purchased from an "Authorized Dealer" and there's a list of such dealers at www.rebate-zone.com/lexar. Adorama is on the list, as is 17th St Photo, Calumet and J&R, but Amazon isn't. However here's a little trick. If you order from Adorama (or one of the other stores) via the Amazon website, Adorama (or the other stores) ship the item and issue the invoice - and their price via the Amazon website may actually be a few dollars less then buying the card directly from them, for example via the Adorama website itself!
