Brief Review
The EF 16-35/2.8L II USM is Canon's premium ultrawide zoom. Via the use of an additional aspheric element and an updated optical design the "II" version features better edge sharpness than the version it replaces. It also has faster AF. 16mm on full frame is very wide indeed, so to fully utilize this lens you need to have an eye for wideagle composition (which isn't as easy as it sounds). The 16-35/2.8L II USM also makes an excellent "wide-to-normal" zoom on a crop sensor camera, giving and angle of view equal to that of a 25.6-56mm lens on a full frame camera. The EF 16-35/2.8L II USM (on full frame) is very useful for work in tight spaces such as when shooting in small rooms indoors. It's also a good lens for architectual work (though not as good as the 17mm and 24mm tilt and shift lenses which can correct for converging/diverging verticals). One feature of note is the large 82mm filter size. This is an increase from 77mm in the previous version, possibly to accomodate larger optics and lower vignetting. It does mean however that you may need to buy 82mm filters, which are neither cheap nor easy to come by in some types (but polarizers and UV filters are available, and they are the most used filters for digital work).
