Prairie Dogs need to keep a sharp lookout for predators, which include Coyotes, Raptors, Foxes, and Rattlesnakes. Not forgetting he greatest threat of all, of course, which is man. One "famous" prairie dog predator is the black footed ferret, one of the most endangered species in North America. The extermination of prairie dogs from much of their original range deprived the ferret of it's primary food source. At one time there were only a handfull (18?) black foot ferrets in existance. Captive breeding and release has boosted their population in the wild slightly, but they are still in a lot of trouble.
