NEWS: Sincere applogies for the LensPlay site being down today (June 1st). I'm afraid it's out of my control as the hosting company who run the servers on which LensPlay is hosted are having system problems. They assure me that this is very unusual for them and that it's never happened before! I can assure them that if it happens again I'll be finding a new hosting service, even though I've paid them for a full year. Anyway I can only hope that by the time you read this the LensPlay website will back online and that there will be no repetition of this outage. Thanks for your patience.

If you think this site has been a little quiet recently, it's maybe because I've been working on a project to develop a lens database. While it's far from complete, it's now at a point where I think it's at least useful and usable, so I'm announcing the launch of "LENSPLAY".

The database and related articles are hosted on a different server than Bob Atkins Photography and the pages are served under a different domain name "lensplay.com". This was done for various logistical reasons. The sites "bobatkins.com" and "lensplay.com" will interlink where appropriate.

I think the LensPlay site is now stable and it works under the three most common web browsers, IE6, Firefox and Opera 8. To run properly it also requires a display of 800x600 or more and Javascript should be turned on.

Since the database system is under active development you might notice small changes from time to time. I'm also planning to add a forum and a gallery at some point in the not-too-distant future. Currently the database contains details on lenses which are avialable in Canon EOS compatible mounts (from both Canon and 3rd party lans manufacturers), plus a few lenses that can easily be addapted to an EOS mount. In the future lenses in other mounts may be added, but if and when they are I'll make it possible to search by lensmount.

Please feel free to post links to LensPlay.com from your own website or anywhere where you think it might be of interest to other photographers. Visitors can add lens data, report errors, add site suggestions and add their own lens ratings. So the more vistors there are, the more accurate the data in database will be, the more lenses will be included and the more reliable the user lens ratings will become!
