Canon Rebates 2005Countdown:What will happen after July 15th is anyone's guess. Earlier this year there was a gap of several months with no rebate between the last rebate scheme and the current one. My guess is that Canon will probably renew the rebates, but maybe not right away and maybe not at the same level and on the same items. Here's a link to the official Canon Rebate Form
Between April 15th 2005 through July 15th 2005 Canon are offering significant rebates on many of their lenses, speedlites, the EOS 20D and the EOS 1D Mk II The lens and speedlite rebates are the same value as those offered earlier this year, except that there is no "multiple item" discount. In the previous scheme you got double the rebate on each if you bought two items, triple the rebate on each if you bought three. The current rebate has a fixed rebate on each item, it doesn't matter how many you buy. The same items are covered in this rebate as in the last rebate, except that the EF 70-300/4.5-5.6 DO IS USM has been added to the list. Again, no EF-S series lenses are included in the rebate offer. The lens rebates are not huge, in fact they just bring the price of the USA lenses down to about the level of gray market lenses +/- $10. The camera rebates are new. The rebate on the Digital Rebel is no longer offered, but there is now a $100 rebate on the EOS 20D and a $500 rebate on the 1D Mk II. The rebate on the 20D is interesting. Maybe Canon are making a pre-emptive strike against Nikon, who have announced that the D70s and D50 will be released at the end of this month (April '05). With the $100 rebate, the price of a 20D body is now down to the $1230 region. The $500 rebate on the 1D Mk II brings the street price down to around $3500, about the same as the D2Hs or about $1500 less than the Nikon D2x.
Below is a list of the equipment included in this rebate scheme. The discounts apply no matter which authorized CANON USA dealer you purchase the items from, as long as they are USA items, not grey market import items. Both Amazon and Adorama are dependable Canon authorized dealers which sell USA items (though note that Adorama also sells grey market items, so make sure you're buying the USA option, which will cost more before the rebate, but in most cases less or equal once the rebate is taken into account). NOTE: If you decide to chose a vendor by absolute lowest advertised price, please make sure to read Caveat Emptor first so you don't get scammed, "bait and switched" or receive grey market goods (which are not eligible for rebates) when you order USA items! Amazon is my preferred affiliate store and offers free shipping on most of these items and prices usually equal to or lower than Adorama. I've recently placed a number of orders with Amazon and I've been pleased with their service. Returns are easy if you have a problem with anything you order and you have 30 days to make a return, which is better than most traditional camera stores (Adorama give you 14 days, plus they add a shipping charge). Note that Adorama's shipping department will be closed from noon on Friday April 22nd through Sunday May 1st for Passover If the Amazon link is missing the item image, please just refresh the page.
